As part of an annual “Reunion with a Mission” – a Books in Science & Math for Transformation (BSMT) initiative by NSDB/NSTA – PNU/DLSU Project 8102 scholars, Joy Tien has been sending (since 2010) surplus textbooks in math and science, which expanded to all kinds of donated books (children’s, novels, biographies, etc.), magazines, educational & tech supplies to many institutions in the Philippines, from preschool to college, for educator and student support and encouragement.

This mission was inspired and got started when Joy and her colleagues (Drs. Richard Stringer and Angela Campbell) provided professional development and gave out textbooks to the teachers, which were well-received. These daring educators presented at educational institutions held in 3 main islands of the Philippines in less than a week (a feat in itself despite the jet lag).
